Windows PC Data Recovery — Unbootable Drives & BitLocker

Blue screens, a missing user profile, INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, or a BitLocker recovery prompt you cannot answer do not mean your files are gone. They mean you should stop booting the machine. We image the drive read-only first, then recover from the copy.

    • INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE and boot-loop cases
    • BitLocker recovery prompts (with your key)
    • Corrupt or reset Windows user profiles
    • Failed Windows updates and interrupted resets
    • NTFS partition and MBR/GPT damage
    • Desktops, laptops, and bare drives accepted

Stop booting and stop running repair tools

Windows tries to help. Startup Repair, automatic repair loops, and CHKDSK all write to the drive, and on a drive that is physically failing every write costs you sectors you may need. If the machine has already tried to repair itself three times, stop there. Shut it down and bring it in. The same applies to CHKDSK /F on a drive that clicks, ticks, or takes minutes to enumerate — it can turn a full recovery into a partial one.

BitLocker: have the key before you start

If Windows asks for a BitLocker recovery key, the volume is encrypted and nothing on it is readable without that key. Check your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey, your work Azure AD account, or a printed copy. Bring the 48-digit key to intake. We can image the encrypted volume either way, but decryption requires the key — there is no workaround, and any lab that claims otherwise is not being honest with you.

'My files are gone' after a Windows update or reset

This is one of the most recoverable cases we see. Updates and profile corruption frequently create a fresh temporary profile while your real profile still sits intact under C:\Users. Interrupted resets are similar: the old data often survives in Windows.old or in unallocated space. The key is to stop using the computer immediately — every minute Windows runs, it writes temp files, telemetry, and indexes over the space your deleted data occupies.

Failing drive versus corrupt file system

The evaluation separates these two, because the right approach is opposite for each. A corrupt NTFS file system on healthy hardware is a straightforward logical recovery. A drive throwing SMART reallocation errors or reading at 2 MB/s needs careful, sector-controlled imaging with head-map skipping — and if it clicks or was dropped, it goes to a qualified physical-recovery partner with your approval before anyone opens it.

    What you get for $50

A same-day diagnostic that tells you the failure type, the health of the drive, the encryption state, and a fixed recovery quote you approve before work begins. No recovery fee if no usable data comes back. Your original drive is returned, and recovered files are delivered on the medium you prefer. Need the PC itself working again afterward? KingsPark IT and Atascocita IT handle the repair or rebuild once the data is safe.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can you recover files from a PC that will not boot?

Usually yes. We remove or access the drive, image it read-only, and recover from the image rather than the failing original.

I do not have my BitLocker key. Can you still recover the data?

No. Without the recovery key, password, or authorized account access, BitLocker-encrypted data cannot be decrypted. We can still assess the hardware.

    Should I run CHKDSK first?

No. CHKDSK writes to the disk and can destroy recoverable data on a failing drive. Bring it in for read-only imaging instead.

Do I need to bring the whole computer?

For a desktop, the bare drive is enough. For laptops, bring the laptop so we can remove the storage safely.

How much does Windows data recovery cost?

A flat $50 same-day evaluation. Most logical Windows cases run $300-$795; physically failing drives are quoted after evaluation.
