Data recovery is priced on labour and parts, not on how much the files are worth to you. Three things move the number. First, whether the fault is logical or physical: a deleted file on a healthy drive is software work, while a clicking drive needs donor parts and bench time. Second, how many devices have to be imaged — a four-bay NAS is four recoveries plus an array rebuild. Third, whether encryption is in play, since a BitLocker or FileVault volume has to be unlocked with your key before any file work can begin.
Nobody can price a recovery honestly before seeing the device. Two identical-looking clicking drives can be a three-hour head swap or a week of imaging around bad sectors. Any lab that quotes a firm number over the phone is either padding for the worst case or planning to revise the figure once they have your drive.
